Sunday the 23rd January 2022 marked the start of this years Ryde Harrier cross country events.
Consisting of three races, this event is intended as a club championship with only Harriers eligible for prizes. However other runners are still welcome to go along and race if they want to, just for the sheer fun of it.
Only two of our club members decided they couldn’t resist it this year so Sean Williams and Margaret Niland-Murphy laced up their trail shoes and went along for a piece of the muddy action.
The course starts from Smallbrook stadium and loops around the Ashey and Nunwell area navigating over gates, stiles and fields.
Sean was in his off road element and put in a cracking performance coming in at a speedy 47:02. Not only did Sean take the number one spot in his age category, it seems that Lady Luck was smiling down on him and directed three of the leading runners in the wrong direction leaving our man in second place overall. Brilliant running Sean!
Margaret crossed the finish line in 1:25:27 and was second in her age category. Well done Margaret!
Awesome work both of you. And don’t despair, you may not be able to win a prize from the races, but you are both winners in our eyes. 🤩
