The second of three races in the Harriers Cross Country series saw 16 Roadrunners don their white vests to go get muddy at Smallbrook on Sunday.
A repeat of the same course run a couple of weeks previously for the Ryde Harriers Championships, the Roadrunners took on the 7 mile course for the men and 5 for the ladies and juniors. The course was reasonable underfoot to begin with, but by 4 miles the runners were splashing through the mud across the fields toward Nunwell.
Our topflight teenager Harry Rann reigned supreme in the junior race as he annihilated the field to finish in the top spot in 37.28.
In the Men’s race, Simon Riley proved he is back to form with a fantastic 3rd place finish in 54.43 giving him 2nd V40.
“I love that course” he tells me that evening “but it was challenging in the boggy sections”
Ross Wilkes made a remarkable recovery from his 100k challenge last weekend to cross the muddy finish line to claim the senior males top spot and 5th overall. Bill Goozee was next home in 7th and 2nd Senior Male giving the lads the win in the team competition.
In the ladies race, Claire Mucklow was the first road runner home over the 5 mile distance to claim the 3rd V45 prize and 9th overall, with Claire Harvey arriving home nextin 12th.
A special mention for Sue Hunter for winning the 2nd place in her V55 category and Kieron Snow for being 4th in his.
