Isle of Wight Marathon

The 60th edition of the Isle of Wight Marathon was hosted today by Ryde Harriers. The longest running marathon in the world. Although the course might have changed over the years they’ve ensured the undulations remain, making it a tough road race.

We had a massive turn-out of IOWRR for this birthday edition. Some tackling the distance for the first time and some a first time for this brutal course. To all who ran today well done!!

The finishers were awarded anniversary goodies:

The race starts and finishes at Plessey Social Club in Cowes, it heads out to Gurnard back to Porchfield, along the main road to Shalfleet continuing as far as Yarmouth. Then on cycle track to Freshwater and almost back to Yarmouth but turning off to Wellow, joining Shalfleet mainroad and retracing steps to the end of Rolls Hill then joining Pallance Road for the last steep uphill before heading back to the social club to finish in the field.
