One IOWRR; Calli Sharp took part in the Tees Barrage 10k Race today. She had to contend with a strong headwind and rain, making it a tough race. Now in its 11th year attracting a large field of competitors – 475 signed-up.
The course starts on Navigation Way at the Tees Barrage following the river down stream to Newport Bridge. Passing over Newport Bridge to cross the river Tees. Following the North Shore path back towards the White Water Course.
Following the path along the river past the Portrack Marsh Nature Reserve to the White Water Course. Past the Tees Barrage and the Teesside Water Sports Centre and under the Infinity and Princess Diana Bridges.
Continuing along the Riverside until the Millennium Bridge, crossing back to the south shore. Once back under Princess Diana Bridge the route turns right and follows the inland waterways. Passing the replica HM Bark Endeavour ship moored on the north shore before crossing a small bridge to follow the canal back on the opposite side.
Once on the rivers edge back under the Infinity Bridge. With the Tees Barrage back in sight it’s a short dash to the finish line.
Calli finished in a brilliant time of 56:05, and was rewarded with socks and water bottle – excellent running!
