Stubbington 10k now in its 31st year, we had 40 IOWRR’s travel to this HRRL race, the first road race of 2016.
Notorious for bad weather, this year was no different leaving the island Sunday morning in pouring rain, the rain continued up until 30 minutes before the race commenced, the temperature then dropped to a mere 2 degrees and stayed overcast for the duration. With a head wind at the exposed Titchfield Haven. Despite the inclement weather we had an almighty 17 PB’s. The course starts from Stubbington village, heads out towards Titchfield and tackling the first incline at just over a mile into the race. It then winds along farm lanes for a subsequent two miles bringing you to the Haven and down to the seafront with views of the island, one further incline then it’s back through residential roads to the village finishing in the square to a large crowd of supporters.
Our first man home was Stu Backhouse in a PB time of 36:49 and lady was Judy McCabe also 3rd Vet 35 in a PB time of 41:10 – special well done to you two! We also saw a club race debut for Sarah Smith in a time of 1:05:13 – brilliant and here’s to many more.
Below are the chip times for all and highlighted are those achieving a 10k PB:
