Fox Ultra

An unearthly start time of 6am was scheduled for the inaugural Fox Ultra in Godalming Surrey on Saturday.
Starting at the Wilfred Noyce Centre, the runners made their way around the 38 mile course into the countryside around the city of Guildford. Travelling in a clockwise direction, the route visits Shackleford, Normandy, Worplesdon, Ripley, Shere and Wonersh. This circular course was devised by avid local walker Richard Fox, keen to share his passion for the beauty of the area. A scenic route, as one can imagine, comprising of 20% road and 80% trail, interspersed with some challenging undulation.

Our distance supremo Steve Hickman was the only Roadrunner in the race. But this was a mere walk in the park for this IWRR legend. When naively asked by our club reporter if this was the furthest he’d ever run he replied

“No, I’ve run much more in the past! My longest was 86 miles non stop. I’ve also done a couple of 100k races and a few 50 milers!”

He finished in a fantastic 8 hours and 9 seconds. Well done Steve, great to see you getting back to your best.
