Ryde Harriers 5000m Track Championship

An invitation to join their 5k track competition from Ryde Harriers was inviting indeed for some of our roadrunners. As it was their club competition, our runners could only compete for places and not prizes. Undeterred, 8 white, blue and red vests lined up on the start line on a warm but breezy evening at Fairway Track, Sandown.

Our super speedster Bill Goozee was soon storming away in front, with our track coach Darren Cole behind him. Our Island games Triathlete Nick Kenney used this as a well placed competition to test his race pace with his International Games coming up in 6 weeks.

After 12 and a half laps of the track they were coming home in style. Bill remained in front for the win, with Darren not too far behind him to secure 2nd. Nick Kenney came over the line in 5th and Dean Pike in 7th position. Matt Fletcher was the next to finish very closely followed by the first lady … our very own Abi Farwell! Bagging herself an official PB in the process and a fantastic 14th overall. Next in was Karen Buck with Steve Hunt concluding the bidding for the IWRR.

Great performances from everyone, with the IOW track championships in a few weeks, the team will have had a little confidence boost- well done!!
