{"id":3045,"date":"2017-10-30T20:54:24","date_gmt":"2017-10-30T20:54:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/?p=3045"},"modified":"2017-10-30T20:54:24","modified_gmt":"2017-10-30T20:54:24","slug":"sugar-loaf-fell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/?p=3045","title":{"rendered":"Sugar Loaf Fell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fresh off the back of his stonking performance at the Great South Run last weekend, our superstar junior Harry Rann took himself off to the Brecon Beacons in Wales to compete in Mynydd Du running club&#8217;s 6 mile race up the Sugar Loaf.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6384.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3051\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6384.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"515\" height=\"766\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This small and intimate race saw only 138 starters begin on the short but sharp upward trajectory from Abergavenny Leisure Centre to the summit some 1600ft away.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6385.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3046\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6385.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"503\" height=\"727\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our junior fireball showed no sign of fatigue from his phenomenal PB the weekend before as he started cautiously near to the back of the field but soon found himself powering up the ascent with vigour.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6383.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3047\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6383.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"577\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite being warm but slightly breezy at ground level, the wind chill factor at the pinnacle was a bracing 1c. With few competitors left in front of him Harry reached the summit amid thick fog. On only a partially marked course, Harry found this part if the course difficult.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6379.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3048\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6379.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1010\" height=\"649\" srcset=\"https:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6379.jpg 1010w, https:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6379-768x493.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1010px) 100vw, 1010px\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6382.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3049\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6382.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"393\" height=\"704\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However it did not affect his performance as he remained strong despite the poor visibility into the descent and back to the finishline.
