The Beast from the East had sent in it\u2019s little brother for a flying visit as strong winds brought with them snow showers and freezing conditions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven standing in the start line the wind was beating against us\u201d Julie said \u201cAll my extremities were numb\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But undeterred, they set off from the event HQ in Birling Gap, one of the few access points to the coastal path. Straight into a headwind, they headed out along Beachy Head Road and up Seven Sisters before turning toward Friston and East Dean.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/173A0E62-64C1-454E-9CCE-AA56D59233F7.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3529\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/173A0E62-64C1-454E-9CCE-AA56D59233F7.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"582\" height=\"298\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A quick return back through Birling before they set off on the second and toughest loop of the course up Beachy Head along the exposed cliff path at the mercy of the elements before the turn at Holywell and the welcome return leg to the finish line.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/6C3A1BB2-CCF2-4850-A2F9-D97CBE427556.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3528\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/6C3A1BB2-CCF2-4850-A2F9-D97CBE427556.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"528\" srcset=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/6C3A1BB2-CCF2-4850-A2F9-D97CBE427556.jpeg 1000w, http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/6C3A1BB2-CCF2-4850-A2F9-D97CBE427556-768x406.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe route was as tough as I anticipated with numerous steep ascents. There was to be no shelter anywhere on the course. It really was a true test of sheer grit and determination to keep going in such testing conditions.
