{"id":2670,"date":"2017-09-05T19:55:27","date_gmt":"2017-09-05T19:55:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/?p=2670"},"modified":"2017-09-05T19:55:27","modified_gmt":"2017-09-05T19:55:27","slug":"canterbury-half-marathon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/?p=2670","title":{"rendered":"Canterbury Half Marathon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s not very often I get to say this, but marathon supremo Steve Hickman ran a half on Bank Holiday Monday over in his home County Kent.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_4890.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2671\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_4890.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"390\" height=\"252\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Scorching temperatures of 25c made an already challenging course all the more difficult. Starting at Merton Farm, just south of the city, the undulating course is a lollypop route following narrow country lanes out to Petham before turning for home at Waltham eventually back on itself to return to Merton Farm.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_4891.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2672\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_4891.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"425\" height=\"788\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_4886.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2673\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_4886.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"885\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_4886.png 885w, http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_4886-768x251.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 885px) 100vw, 885px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was boiling hot and very hilly, particularly at 11 miles. I had to climb up Heartbreak Hill&#8221; he said<\/p>\n<p>Steve came in 2 seconds shy of two and a quarter hours, great running in that heat!The race was raising funds for the Pilgrims Hospices, a charity very close to Steve&#8217;s heart. So well done Steve, all that hot work was worth it.
