And so it must be true, as glorious sunshine bathed all the runners that gave up their time on Mothers Day to celebrate the life of Isle of Wight Road Runners member Roger Walker-Reed and his massive contribution to the club.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1802\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1445.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1445\" width=\"972\" height=\"685\" srcset=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1445.jpg 972w, http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1445-768x541.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 972px) 100vw, 972px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Following one of Roger&#8217;s favourite training routes, the 7ish mile loop started at Ventnors iconic paddling pool, the runners made their way along the seafront and cliff path before embarking upon the routes only climb.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1803\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1439.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1439\" width=\"792\" height=\"373\" srcset=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1439.jpg 792w, http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1439-768x362.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 792px) 100vw, 792px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Starting at Castle Road, then Gills Cliff Road, the runners made their way up all 800 feet of ascent to the crest of the formidable St Boniface Down.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1808\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1459.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1459\" width=\"571\" height=\"1002\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But the view was worth the effort. Our beautiful Island was absolutely resplendent in the Spring sunshine.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1806\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1444.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1444\" width=\"1024\" height=\"571\" srcset=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1444.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1444-768x428.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;OK, so imagine the steepest hill you&#8217;ve ever walked up. Now imagine running up that hill for 3 continuous miles and when you get to the water stop at the top, they serve wine spritzers and peach schnapps! Only on the Isle of Wight are these things a reality!&#8221;\u00a0Said Alice Baker, an unattached runner from Southampton. It was the first time she had participated in such an event, but judging from her picture, her and fianc\u00e9 David, will be back next year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1809\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1458.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1458\" width=\"765\" height=\"764\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But what\u00a0goes up, must come down, and come down they did. Hurtling along Cowleaze Hill, down Bonchurch Shute and onto the seafront and back along to Ventnor Haven<\/p>\n<p>First across the line was Paul Cameron, in just shy of 51 minutes. His first appearance after quite a period of injury, so it&#8217;s great to see you back Paul. First Lady was Woking AC runner Bel Levene in a speedy 56.08.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1804\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/911587C1-324A-494E-9E41-04A3DB5D7252.jpg\" alt=\"911587C1-324A-494E-9E41-04A3DB5D7252\" width=\"2048\" height=\"2048\" srcset=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/911587C1-324A-494E-9E41-04A3DB5D7252.jpg 2048w, http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/911587C1-324A-494E-9E41-04A3DB5D7252-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However speed was not the deciding factor in dishing out the amazing bling! (Roger&#8217;s family have kindly donated some of the running legends old running trophies)<br \/>\nThose who can guess most accurately how long it will take them to complete the course, (nomination), are those which emerge victorious. (drum roll please!)<\/p>\n<p>1st man: Graham Maitland 36 sec out<br \/>\n2nd man: Nick Scott-Denness 55 sec out<br \/>\n3rd man: Keith Ruth 1 min 57 sec out<\/p>\n<p>1st lady: Julie Ray, Phillipa Daley and Sally Roberts 2 sec out<br \/>\n2nd lady: Angela Thornton 6 sec out.<br \/>\n3rd lady: Clare Mucklow 22 sec out.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1811\" src=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/634B4ACB-1127-4938-8082-D7EE223DA85C.jpg\" alt=\"634B4ACB-1127-4938-8082-D7EE223DA85C\" width=\"2048\" height=\"2048\" srcset=\"http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/634B4ACB-1127-4938-8082-D7EE223DA85C.jpg 2048w, http:\/\/isleofwightroadrunners.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/634B4ACB-1127-4938-8082-D7EE223DA85C-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Entrants also made up self titled teams of 4 for the final trophy.<br \/>\n1st team: GB &#8211; Julie Ray, Elaine Harris, Garry Sharp &amp; Steve Hickman.<br \/>\n2nd team: Bats Out of Fell &#8211; Rosie Eldridge, Nigel Eldridge, Elaine Parry &amp; Richard Melville<br \/>\n3rd team: Go Go Girls &#8211; Ian Dyer, Fay Tosdevin, Nick Scott-Denness &amp; Clare Mucklow.<\/p>\n<p>Most importantly, the event is a fund raiser for 2 charities in Roger&#8217;s name.
