ABP Southampton Half 2015

The final weekend event for our IOWRR’s, the inaugural Southampton Half Marathon.

south

15 IOWRR’s joined the 6,000 participants and we had the support from other road runners cheering us along the route. This event was superbly executed – an undulating course with some great views, four bridges were conquered and the crowd support was absolutely brilliant.

For some this was the first time they had attempted to race a Half Marathon, so a special well done to those. Despite the number of participants some achieved PB’s by as much as 14 minutes!

We had IOWRR solo entrants, team members and lots marshaling at the IOW XC Duathlon taking place Saturday morning at the Isle of Wight Mountain Biking Centre, Cheverton.

It remained cool and foggy for the duration, making the technical course very difficult to navigate. Participants had the option of a Sprint: 3KM Run, 10KM Bike finished with a 3KM Run or the Epic:  5KM Run, 20KM Bike and 5KM Run. 43 people started the race and 30 completed, showing how hard this course was.

Club Chairman Kev Winchcombe was 2nd in the sprint distance in a time of 01:23:46, Noel Finn sprint 4th – 01:33:10, Mick and his son Josh Coultrup took the sprint team 2nd in 01:46:46, Andy MacArthur was part of an epic team relay coming in 3rd 02:14:02.

Brutal 10k & Cani-cross – 25/04/15

Five Isle of Wight Road Runners travelled to participate in Bordon Heaths Brutal 10k, the course is a two-lap event, with undulating, twisty trails and enough mud and bog to sap the strength of even the mightiest Brutaleer!

Brighton Marathon

A large group of IWRR’s traveled to Brighton to either compete in the Marathon or support the runners.

An expected 10,000 people were due to finish the race. Weather conditions changed for the better as just this weekend Brighton had experienced sunshine, rain, wind and Saharan pollution. The orgainsers also provided water at nearly every mile of the race due to the sunny conditions.

We had 20 start this fast and flat course making it perfect for a marathon PB. For some participants this was a marathon debut, lots of others managed a PB whilst some battled with injury to finish. Unfortunately we had one member give a very gallant effort but was too ill to finish.

Runners take in an 8 mile XC loop from Freshwater Sports Centre. The weather had changed for the better and 34 IWRR’s embarked on this demanding course in glorious sunshine.

Our mens team of Paul, Pete and Stu were untouchable as they came in first again and our women were third, also more age group related prizes.

Eastleigh 10k 2015

19 IWRR’s coached to participate in Eastleigh 10k today. This year saw the largest number on entrants, always a well marshaled and supported road race following a figure of eight route through Eastleigh finishing in Fleming Park.

The clouds parted for the 9am start accompanied by wind. We had a few members completing the distance for the first time, PB’s from others and some tackling the race with illness. A few people super-close to PB’ing, not to worry a few 10k’s left in the season to smash them!
